Paxter
Paxter turns readable YAML files into browser workflows. The local Studio lets people import YAML, build workflows with drag and drop, run them, and review screenshots without editing code.
Start Paxter Studio
Paxter Studio needs Python 3.10 or newer. It does not need Node.js or .NET on the customer computer.
Install the wheel supplied with Paxter:
python -m pip install paxter_studio-0.2.0-py3-none-any.whlInstall the browser once:
paxter setupOpen the folder that will hold the workflows and start Paxter:
cd my-workflows paxter
Paxter opens at http://localhost:6060. Keep the terminal window open while using it. Press Ctrl+C to stop it.
Use the Studio
- Select New workflow → Import YAML to paste a workflow made elsewhere.
- Select Builder to add, edit, drag, and reorder human-readable actions.
- Select Run to execute the workflow and see plain-language progress or repair guidance.
- Select Evidence to review screenshots and reports.
- Use the sun or moon button to switch between light and dark themes.
Workflows are saved in Outputs. Evidence is saved in .paxter-output.
Example workflow
Save this text as example.yaml, then import it in the Studio:
Headless: true
NeedVideo: false
Actions:
- Action: Page_GotoAsync
Data1: https://example.com
To run a file without opening the Studio:
paxter run example.yaml
Use Paxter as a Python library
from paxter_studio import run_workflow
result = run_workflow("example.yaml", headless=True)
print(result.session_path)
Build the customer package
From this repository:
python -m pip install build
python -m build python
The installable wheel is created in python/dist. See python/README.md for package-specific details.
Develop the Studio UI
Node.js is needed only for development:
cd ui
npm install
npm run dev
The Vite UI runs at http://localhost:6060 and proxies the local API on port 6061.
Only run workflows against sites and test environments you are authorised to use. YAML files, screenshots, videos, and reports may contain private data; store them in an approved location.
