Game Catalog Extension (GCE) SDK
The Game Catalog Extension (GCE) SDK enables third-party game catalogs to integrate with Xbox PC App without requiring games to be built with the Game Development Kit (GDK) or ingested into the Microsoft Store. Its goal is to provide a user experience similar to Microsoft Store-based games while allowing partners to manage their own installers and launchers.
Key Features
- Metadata-Only Products (MOPs): Publish metadata-only entries in the Microsoft Store for your games (title, description, screenshots, trailers).
- Installer Integration: Provide a Microsoft Store product that links to your installer (MSI/EXE) hosted on a versioned CDN.
- Unified Experience: Xbox App queries your catalog and coordinates installs, updates, and game launches via GCE APIs.
- Deep Integration: Supports richer metadata, direct launch, and status reporting for game titles.
Architecture
Interfaces
- IGameCatalogExtension: Handles extension lifecycle, game discovery, and user sign-in/out events.
- IGameCatalogExtensionItem: Represents individual games and their operational states.
Contract:
Defined via IDL and WinMD for partners to implement runtime classes.
