Enigma.Logging.Abstractions
Shared abstractions for the Enigma.Logging provider builders.
What's new in 1.0 — first release of the Enigma.Logging umbrella: the shared
ILoggerHandlecontract. See the release notes.
What this package is
The provider-agnostic contract layer of Enigma.Logging. It defines the handle interfaces that
Enigma.Logging.NLog and Enigma.Logging.Serilog implement, so you can code against the handle
shape without taking a dependency on either logging backend.
Its only dependency is
Microsoft.Extensions.Logging.Abstractions
— there is no NLog or Serilog reference here.
Both adapters reference this package, so you rarely need to install it directly; reference it when a library of yours accepts or returns a handle but must stay backend-neutral.
Install
dotnet add package Enigma.Logging.Abstractions
The contract
ILoggerHandle : IDisposable
Owns the lifetime of a logger built by one of the provider builders.
| Member | Description |
|---|---|
ILogger Logger { get; } |
The built (primary) logger. |
ILoggerFactory Factory { get; } |
The factory backing the owned provider; create additional categorized loggers with it. |
ILogger<T> CreateLogger<T>() |
A categorized logger whose category is the full name of T. |
Dispose() |
Flushes and shuts the underlying provider down, deterministically and idempotently. |
After Dispose: Factory and CreateLogger<T>() throw ObjectDisposedException. Logger
returns its cached reference and does not throw.
IFlushableLoggerHandle : ILoggerHandle
Adds void Flush() — flush buffered log entries to their targets without disposing the logger.
Implemented only where the provider supports flush-without-close. It too throws
ObjectDisposedException after Dispose.
| Adapter | Handle implements |
|---|---|
Enigma.Logging.NLog |
IFlushableLoggerHandle — NLog supports flush-without-close. |
Enigma.Logging.Serilog |
ILoggerHandle only — Serilog cannot flush without closing. |
