DocWright.Renderers.Pdf

The PDF writer for DocWright: a single-pass PDF 1.7 renderer with TrueType and CFF font subsetting.

Zero dependencies.

Install

dotnet add package DocWright.Renderers.Pdf

Most people should install DocWright instead — it includes this package, and converter.Convert(input, output) writes PDF through it.

Usage

using DocWright;

var converter = new DocWrightConverter();

using FileStream input  = File.OpenRead("report.docx");
using FileStream output = File.Create("report.pdf");

ConversionResult result = converter.Convert(input, output);

Not to be confused with

DocWright.Formats.Pdf goes the other direction — it reads and rasterizes an existing PDF. These are opposite ends of the pipeline, not a pair. If you want PDF pages as images, that is the package you want, via ConvertPdfToImages.

What it produces

  • PDF 1.7, written in a single pass with no temporary files
  • Embedded, subsetted fonts — only the glyphs the document actually uses
  • Vector graphics for shapes, borders and rules; images embedded in their original encoding where possible
  • Document outline, hyperlinks and a structure tree for accessibility
  • PDF/A-2b output when asked for it

Deterministic

Rendering the same document twice produces byte-identical output: no timestamps, no generated identifiers.

DocWright

Convert, render and edit Word documents in .NET — no Microsoft Word, no Office interop, no native dependencies. Reads DOCX and legacy DOC, renders to PDF and PNG/JPEG, saves to DOCX, HTML, Markdown, RTF, text, ODT, EPUB and RDL, rasterizes existing PDFs, and edits documents through a mutable model with find/replace, placeholder filling, content controls and tracked changes. This is the main package: install it for the whole pipeline.
