DocWright.Formats.Rtf

Rich Text Format (RTF 1.9) import and export for DocWright: a dependency-free tokenizer and destination reader, and a deterministic document-to-RTF writer.

Install

dotnet add package DocWright.Formats.Rtf

Most people should install DocWright instead — it includes this package and wires .rtf into Load and Save.

Usage

using DocWright;

var converter = new DocWrightConverter();

// Read
using var document = converter.Load(File.OpenRead("memo.rtf"));

// Write
using FileStream output = File.Create("memo-copy.rtf");
converter.Save(document, output, ".rtf");

Encoding does not depend on the host

Single-byte code pages are compiled into the package, so an RTF file decodes to the same text on every machine regardless of the operating system's installed code pages or the current thread culture. That matters for RTF specifically, because the format encodes text in whatever code page the producing application happened to use.

Deterministic output

Writing the same document twice produces byte-identical RTF — no timestamps, no generated identifiers, stable ordering.

Requirements

.NET Framework 4.8, .NET Standard 2.0, .NET 8.0 or .NET 10.0. No third-party dependencies.

DocWright

Convert, render and edit Word documents in .NET — no Microsoft Word, no Office interop, no native dependencies. Reads DOCX and legacy DOC, renders to PDF and PNG/JPEG, saves to DOCX, HTML, Markdown, RTF, text, ODT, EPUB and RDL, rasterizes existing PDFs, and edits documents through a mutable model with find/replace, placeholder filling, content controls and tracked changes. This is the main package: install it for the whole pipeline.
