Bluefish.ObservabilityDefaults

Aspire-style "service defaults" for ASP.NET Core services: OpenTelemetry tracing, metrics, and Serilog-forwarded logging exported via OTLP, resilient HttpClient defaults, service discovery, and /health//alive endpoints.

Originally written as part of .NET Aspire's ServiceDefaults project template (https://aka.ms/aspire/service-defaults) and packaged here so it can be shared across services without a source-level dependency between repos.

Usage

var builder = WebApplication.CreateBuilder(args);

// otlpEndpoint: pass an explicit OTLP collector URL for real deployments, or leave null to fall
// back to OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT (e.g. auto-injected by the Aspire AppHost in local dev).
builder.AddServiceDefaults(otlpEndpoint);

// ...

var app = builder.Build();

app.MapDefaultEndpoints(); // /health and /alive

Publishing

Publishing to nuget.org happens in CI (.github/workflows/publish.yml), triggered by pushing a version tag. Package versioning is handled by MinVer, which derives the version directly from the tag, so to publish a new version:

git tag 1.0.31
git push origin 1.0.31
