Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF.AuroraDsql

Amazon Aurora DSQL wiring for Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF: the DbDataSource that connects with IAM authentication, and the DbContext options that make EF Core migrations and transactions work on DSQL.

It belongs to the Infrastructure layer. Dependencies: Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF, Alvecta.Utils.EF.AuroraDsql, Amazon.AuroraDsql.Npgsql, AWSSDK.DSQL, Npgsql and Npgsql.EntityFrameworkCore.PostgreSQL.

What it contains

  • AuroraDsqlDbDataSourceProvider — the IDbDataSourceProvider. Builds one DsqlDataSource per connection string (cached for the life of the process) from its Host, Port, Database, Username and Search Path. Connections authenticate with IAM tokens from the default AWS credential chain, so the connection string carries no password. Schema names in the search path are quoted, so their casing is kept.
  • AuroraDsqlDbContextOptionsAction — the IDbContextOptionsAction. Calls UseNpgsql over that data source (PostgreSQL 16 compatibility, the migrations assembly from IMigrationsAssemblyProvider), then UseAuroraDsql from Alvecta.Utils.EF.AuroraDsql: a DSQL-compatible migrations SQL generator and history table, REPEATABLE READ transactions, and migrations that wait for asynchronous index builds to finish, logging their progress through the host's ILoggerFactory.
  • AlvectaFoundationEFAuroraDsqlStartup.ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection) — registers both and applies AuroraDsqlNpgsqlPatcher.Patch(), so transactions opened directly on an NpgsqlConnection work on DSQL too.

Usage

dotnet add package Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF.AuroraDsql

Register it in the composition root, together with an IMigrationsAssemblyProvider for the project that holds your migrations:

using Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF.AuroraDsql;
using Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF.Persistence.DatabaseMigration;

AlvectaFoundationEFAuroraDsqlStartup.ConfigureServices(services);

services.AddSingleton<IMigrationsAssemblyProvider, MigrationsAssemblyProvider<OrdersMigrationsMarker>>();
services.AddLogging();

The SetDbContextOptions callback shown in the Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF readme then resolves both services. A connection string looks like:

Server=<cluster-id>.dsql.<region>.on.aws;Database=postgres;User Id=admin;SearchPath=Orders

The process needs dsql:DbConnectAdmin (for the admin user) on the cluster. Alvecta.Foundation.Deployment.Cdk grants it to every service when the environment owns a cluster. Add Alvecta.Foundation.Infrastructure.EF.Postgres as well to create the schema before the first migration.
