Keysight Technologies VISA.NET
Keysight Technologies VISA.NET provides a programming interface designed specifically for .NET CLS-compliant languages such as C# and VB.NET.
VISA.NET is based on VISA (Virtual Instrument Software Architecture), an API for industry-standard I/O. It can be used to develop I/O applications and instrument drivers that are interoperable with other VISA.NET implementations and comply with IVI Foundation standards. The Interchangeable Virtual Instruments (IVI) Foundation created the VISA.NET standards in 2014 to provide a VISA API that uses familiar .NET features and idioms.
Requirements
The system requirements to use VISA.NET:
Operating System: 64-bit Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022
.NET Runtime: .NET Framework 4.x or .NET Core 6.0 or later
IO Libraries: Keysight IO Libraries Suite 2025 or later.
You must install the appropriate version of Keysight IO Libraries Suite, which provides the runtime I/O support required for VISA.NET to function.
To download or upgrade to the latest version:
- Visit the Keysight IO Libraries download page
- Select your operating system—Windows and access the appropriate installers
- Review the Release Notes and Readme online or download them. The Readme includes complete installation instructions
- For additional guidance and documentation, access the online IO Libraries Suite Help
Documentation
API documentation for VISA.NET is not available online. It is installed locally with the Keysight IO Libraries Suite.
To access the documentation after installation:
- Right-click the IO icon in the Windows system tray
- Navigate to: Documentation → VISA.NET Help
This help file includes usage guidance, class references, and code examples to help you get started.
