SelectPdf Fonts

SelectPdf

This package contains Google's Noto fonts for the SelectPdf.Universal and SelectPdf.HtmlToPdf.Universal libraries, so that text in any language converts correctly on a Linux or macOS host that has no fonts installed: Docker images, AWS Lambda, Azure App Service on Linux, Google Cloud Run.

Without it, the libraries bring only Latin fonts (the Liberation faces), and a page in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Thai and many other languages prints its text as empty boxes on such a host.

What it contains

  • Noto Sans, Serif and Mono for every script Noto covers: Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari and the other Indic scripts, Thai, Lao, Khmer, Myanmar, Georgian, Armenian, Ethiopic, Tibetan, and many more, in Regular and Bold;
  • Noto Sans CJK for Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, Regular and Bold;
  • Noto Color Emoji.

About 92 MB. The fonts are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; the license texts are in the fonts/licenses folder.

Installation

dotnet add package SelectPdf.Universal.Fonts

next to the managed library and the native package for your runtime. Nothing else is needed: the fonts are copied to a fonts folder next to your application on build and publish, and the library and its Chromium engine use that folder.

  • The fonts are not copied for Windows targets (a RuntimeIdentifier starting with win): Windows already has fonts for these scripts. An application built without a runtime identifier gets them, since it may run anywhere.
  • Set <SelectPdfFonts>false</SelectPdfFonts> in the project to never copy them.

Fonts installed on the host (for example with apt-get install fonts-noto-cjk in a Dockerfile) keep working with or without this package.
