Microsoft.WindowsAppSDK.Search

Windows App SDK Search APIs, including the Microsoft.Windows.Search.AppContentIndex namespace (App Content Search).

App Content Search indexes text and images supplied by your app and returns a fused result set for a query, matching on keywords and, on supported NPU-enabled devices, on meaning. Indexing and retrieval run on the device, and the index is stored in the app's local app data. App Content Search chunks long text automatically and manages the text index, embeddings, vector storage, and index persistence, which makes it suitable for in-app search and retrieval-augmented generation.

Your app keeps its original content and metadata. App Content Search does not watch your files or data store, so your app adds, updates, and removes index items as its content changes, and resolves the content IDs returned by queries back to its own content.

Package version

Limited Access Feature

App Content Search is a Limited Access Feature. Installing this package does not authorize an app to call the APIs. Your app needs a token for feature ID com.microsoft.windows.ai.appcontentindexer and must call LimitedAccessFeatures.TryUnlockFeature before calling any AppContentIndex API.
