Flowcourier.Umbraco.Matomo
Matomo analytics inside the Umbraco backoffice. The Matomo provider for Flowcourier.Umbraco.Analytics.Core (installed automatically). Editors get the numbers where they work — no Matomo login, no context switch:
- An Analytics section with five dashboards: Realtime (who is on the site right now), Visitors (traffic over time, countries, regions, cities), Behaviour (pages, entry and exit pages), Acquisition (channels, referrers, search engines, social networks, campaigns, AI assistants) and Technology (devices, browsers, operating systems, screen resolutions, device models).
- An Analytics tab on every document: that page's pageviews, visits, time on page, bounce and exit rates with previous-period comparison, a daily chart, where its visitors came from, which pages they came from and went to next (Matomo Transitions), and their locations and devices.
- A shared date-range control (today, yesterday, last 7/30 days, this/last month, this year, custom) on every date-ranged view, and a live visitor count on the Analytics section in the top bar.
- Optional PageSpeed Insights and Google Search Console views on the
same document tab (plus a Search queries dashboard) — configured in the
core package's
Flowcourier:Analyticssection.
Everything is read live from your Matomo (self-hosted or Matomo Cloud) through its Reporting API. The package stores nothing and adds no database tables.
Requirements
- Umbraco 17.5 or later (
net10.0) - Matomo 4.x or 5.x reachable from the Umbraco server
- A Matomo
token_authfor a user with view access to the site
Install
dotnet add package Flowcourier.Umbraco.Matomo --prerelease
Configure
{

"Matomo": {
"Endpoint": "https://analytics.example.com/",
"TokenAuth": "<token_auth>",
"SiteId": 1,
"SiteUrl": "https://www.example.com"

}
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
Enabled |
true |
Master switch. |
Endpoint |
— | Base URL of your Matomo (with or without index.php). |
TokenAuth |
— | A Matomo API token. Prefer the environment variable Flowcourier__Matomo__TokenAuth over committing it. Tokens created with Only allow secure requests work — the token is only ever sent as a POST field. |
SiteId |
— | The Matomo website id the Umbraco site is tracked under. |
SiteUrl |
Matomo's main URL for the site | Public base URL the pages are tracked under; used to build the per-page URLs. Set it when the Umbraco host differs from the tracked host (staging, load balancers). |
Sites |
[] |
Multi-site installs: [{ "RootContentKey": "<guid>", "SiteId": 2, "SiteUrl": "https://other.example" }] maps a content subtree to another Matomo site; the closest ancestor wins. |
ReportCacheSeconds |
300 |
Server-side cache for date-ranged reports. |
RealtimeCacheSeconds |
15 |
Cache for the Realtime payload (the dashboard polls every 30 s). |
RealtimeMinutes |
30 |
The Realtime "active now" window. |
TimeoutSeconds |
30 |
Per-request timeout for Matomo calls. |
The effective settings (token masked) are shown under Settings → Flowcourier → Matomo.
Shared settings — the public SiteUrl, the live badge, PageSpeed Insights,
Search Console and GrantAdminSectionAccess — live under
Flowcourier:Analytics (see the core package's README).
Creating the token
In Matomo: Administration → Personal → Security → Auth tokens → Create new token. Give it a description (e.g. "Umbraco"), keep Only allow secure requests ticked, and copy the token once — Matomo does not show it again. Create it for a user that only has view access to the site: the token carries that user's rights.
Notes
- Unique visitors over a custom range are only reported when your Matomo host enables unique-visitor processing for ranges; the charts always show unique visitors per day.
- Page-scoped breakdowns (referrers, locations, devices on the document tab) use a Matomo segment, which is processed on the fly. On a large self-hosted Matomo with browser-triggered archiving disabled they may be empty; the page metrics and Transitions do not use segments and always work.
- The Analytics section is a regular backoffice section: grant it to the user groups that should see it. The document tab is visible to everyone who can edit the document.
